Okay, you've seen them on television, or perhaps in your local pet shop, and you think, "They're so cute, I just GOTTA get me one o' those!" They're cuddly and funny, with their big ears and their curly tails. "It's like a great big radio-active mouse!" your son says, giggling. All around are "ooh"ing and "aah"ing at this little furry creature before you. You discover they're not too expensive to buy and you're tempted to come home with one of your very own. But WAIT!!!!!!!!! I became the proud owner of my very first chin called Reba in October 1999, and I added to my furry family in November 2002 - three gorgeous girlies; a beige, a violet and a standard violet carrier (all born August 2002).* During those years I became upset and appalled to discover that many of these lovely creatures end up in rescue centres all over the UK as unwanted pets. This site has been created in an attempt to guide you through the issues you need to consider before deciding to introduce a chinchilla to your household. Like any other pet, they're NOT "just for Christmas". They are wonderful little animals to keep and care for, but your life WILL CHANGE! A little research and forward planning will ensure that having a chinchilla in your life is everything you expected and hoped it would be! * On 6th January 2003, I adopted a little rescue chin - I named him Oliver (he was such a scrappy little urchin!) - he's a standard grey and so sweet! How can anyone neglect such lovely animals? See Gallery for a piccy! * On 23rd June 2003, I adopted two more rescue girlies, a lovely black-white cross I've named Eloise, and standard cage-mate Aisha - what little crackers! (Use Gallery link above to see them.) * 3rd September 2005 I became the proud owner of two new girlies - Oliver's long-awaited wives - see Gallery!
